Walking Trails

Gallery (3 km): Follow the “Rosannaweg“ path, then head slightly uphill to the ventilation shaft of the road tunnel. Fantastic views over the St. Jakob area can be enjoyed from this vantage point. Various winter walking trails can be joined from here.

Verwall (10-km round trip): Take the old “Arlberg straße” street to the Hotel Mooserkreuz, heading steeply uphill (we recommend using the ski bus to the end of the old Arlbergstraße). From there, on almost flat terrain you have the possibility of walking to the Rasthaus Ferwall (roadhouse) or enjoying the panoramic walking trail around Verwall lake. This walk may easily become a highlight of your winter holiday

Around St. Anton am Arlberg (2.5 km): A very easy loop that presents St. Anton am Arlberg from various perspectives.

Rodelhütte – tobogganing hut (7-km round trip): Walk along the “Kunstmeile“ to the cable car station in Nasserein, then head steeply uphill to the end of the “Nassereinerstraße” street. From here it is a quite strenuous uphill ascent (over 200 metres in elevation) to the toboggan run. Fantastic views over St. Anton am Arlberg and the “Stanzertal“ valley can be enjoyed from here.

Jakobusweg (7-km round trip): The constant up and down hill sections are what makes this walk interesting. Proceed on the sunny side of the “Stanzertal” valley, parts of which follow along the famous St. James‘ pilgrimage trail. Connecting with other trails is possible. Narrow trail  – Sturdy shoes required.

Ganderau (3 km): Plain walking path around St. Jakob.

Pettneu via Vadiesen (12-km round trip): Follow the
“Jakobusweg” trail to St. Jakob, walking along the “Dorfstraße” street to the “Untergand“ area and to the neighbouring village of Pettneu. To return, walk along the “Rosannaweg“ path directly beside the Rosanna river.

St. Christoph (2.5 km): Ridgeway at 1800 m. The Alpine trail begins at the “Arlberg Thaja“ at the elevation of the Arlberg pass. It runs parallel to the cross country trail.

Reit (2 km): Sunny, flat loop on the outskirts of Pettneu.

Kunstmeile (1 km): From the ARLBERG-well.com centre to the cable car station in Nasserein.

“Planie” loop (2.5 km): Walk from the Tourist Office through the park, passing the ARLBERG-well.com centre and along the
“Kunstmeile”section to the cable car station in Nasserein. Cross the “Dorfstraße“ street. Before reaching the petrol station, walk along the “Auweg” and through the underpass. Then cross the Rosanna river and walk along the “Friedhofsweg”path until you reach the railway station. Pass the arl.rock, cross the bridge and walk back to the village centre of St. Anton.

Cross Country Ski Trails

With the exception of the first 2 km of the Stanzertal trail, all cross country ski trails are groomed for classic cross country and skating (free style).

St. Christoph Trail (2.5 km), Medium
Looping path at 1,800 m elevation.  Brief descents and ascents. The St. Christoph sun terrace is a good meeting point for Alpine skiers.

Verwall Trail (10 km), Medium
Across from the Hotel Mooserkreuz, the “Verwallweg” path branches off from the “Arlbergstraße” street. The cross country trail starts after about 200 metres and leads through the scenic Verwall Valley and around Verwall lake. The trail is challenging and features irregular terrain. In narrow sections where there is only one classic trail, we kindly ask skaters to be considerate.

The Stanzertal Trail (22 km), Easy
The trail begins at the “Wertstoffhof“ in St. Anton and runs slightly downhill along the riverside. Until reaching Flirsch, there is access to all the villages in our holiday region along the trail. Please note that there is a hidden descent after the first kilometre of the trail!

Ganderau Trail (3 km), Easy
Easy trail, ideal for beginners. Starting points: east of Hotel Tirolerhof or at the fire station in St. Jakob.

Reit Trail (2 km), Easy
Easy, 2-km loop, situated in the East of Pettneu with access to the Stanzertal trail. It is an ideal practice round.

Pofel Trail (1.5 km), Easy
The trail (irregular terrain) is located between the Rosanna river and the highway, east of the wellness park in Pettneu.

The Art Room’s Slogan: “Culture is what we share”. These words by Peter Sellar are an apt description for the work of the Art Room Assoc. in Pettneu. Food for thought: walk through the internal rooms over the ramp and take in the architectural design of the walls, the asphalt flooring; the passageways with floor spots under the large table with light slots on the side; and both garden areas with the giant table. Visit the Art Room and discover how people in Pettneu and Tyrol lived and worked in the past.
